AFC Leopards Set to Unveil New Coach

Patrick Aussems

NAIROBI, Kenya, February 7, 2021 – AFC Leopards are set to unveil Belgian Patrick Aussems as their new head coach.

The 55-year-old tactician arrived in Nairobi on Saturday, January 6, ahead of his official introduction on Monday.

Aussem will take over the FKF League side from Anthony Kimani, who has been the interim head coach following the exit of Czech coach Tomas Trucha.

The 47-year-old Czech Republic national, who was appointed in November before the start of the 2020/21 campaign, resigned due to allegations of threats against his agent.

Other coaches, including Zlatko Krmpotic (Serbian) and Maxwell Kanodu (Ghanaian), had also been interested in the Leopards job.

Aussems has over 27 years of international experience in Europe, Asia, and Africa as a player, coach, technical director, and national coach.

He has coached African teams, including KSA Cameroon, AC Leopards of Congo, Tanzanian giants Simba SC and Black Leopards of South Africa.

In his stint with Simba, he won the Tanzanian Premier League title in 2018/19 and reached the quarter-finals of the African Champions League, losing to TP Mazembe 4-1.

While coaching AC Leopards of Congo, he reached the semi-finals of the Caf Confederation Cup in 2014.

He left Simba in November 2019 and joined Black Leopards in September 2020.

Aussems, who had signed a three-year contract with the Black Leopards, was later sacked after losing three consecutive matches.

As a player, he turned out for RCS Vise, Standard Liege, KAA Gent, RFC Seraing, and ES Troyes AC.

Ingwe, who are currently fourth with 18 points after eight league matches, will today, 7th February, face Gor Mahia in the Mashemeji Derby at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi.
