Belgian Patrick Aussems Named AFC Leopards New Head Coach

NAIROBI, Kenya, February 9, 2021 – AFC Leopards has officially confirmed the appointment of Belgian tactician Patrick Aussems as the club’s new head coach.

Aussem will take over the FKF League side from Anthony Kimani, who has been the interim head coach following the exit of Czech coach Tomas Trucha.

Trucha who was appointed in November before the start of the 2020/21 campaign, resigned due to allegations of threats against his agent.

“The 55-year-old Belgian, former Standard Liege defender joins us with vast experience having coached teams across Europe and Africa for the last 30 years,” the club said in a statement.

He joins the club after a successful stint at Tanzania’s Simba SC where he guided Simba S.C. to the Tanzanian Premier League title in 2018/19 and reached the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League.

He has handled Sudan’s Al-Hilal – he won the Super Cup of Sudan and Congo Brazzaville’s AC Leopards where won the league in 2014 and qualified in the semifinals of CAF Confederation Cup 2014.

Aussems who holds a UEFA PRO coaching license has also coached Nepal’s national team. Aussems will have his first training session today and will be in charge of Ingwe’a Saturday’s FKF Cup match against Taita Taveta All-Stars in Wundanyi.
