Lands Cabinet Secretary Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi was on October 4, 2017 honored with the Distinguished Dentist Award by Pierre Fauchard Academy (PFA).
Prof. Kaimenyi, a former Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs at the University of Nairobi got the award for his exemplary contribution to the profession of dentistry and the community at large.
The award was formally presented to him by Dr. Pankaj Patel, Chairman, PFA Kenya at the UoN School of Dental Sciences.
UoN Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi commended Prof. Kaimenyi for his exceptional and immense contribution in research, academia and national leadership.
In a speech read on his behalf by Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs, Prof. Henry Mutoro, Prof. Mbithi singled out Prof. Kaimenyi’s great service to the dental fraternity for having served as a past chair of the Kenya Dental Association, past Dean of the School of Dental Sciences, past President of the Common Wealth Dental Association among other many responsibilities.
“You have indeed taught and mentored many dentists and many of them here recognize you as their teacher. I wish to recognize your great service which even extends far outside the professional realm. You are the former DVC (AA) of this great Institution, the University of Nairobi, Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Education and you continue to excel as the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Lands. You are indeed a towering dental professional,” Prof. Mbithi said.
In his acceptance speech, Prof. Kaimenyi thanked PFA for the award and vowed to always provide service to the dentistry profession and the country.
He called on professional colleagues to work towards the greater good of the community saying as Kenyans they need to serve others all the time.
Among those who witnessed the auspicious moment were Hon. Dan Kazungu, the Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Hon. Joe Mucheru, Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of ICT, Ministry of Lands Principal Secretary, Dr. Nicholas Muraguri, College of Health Sciences acting Principal, Prof. Fredrick Were, Dental School Dean, Prof. Regina Mutave among other distinguished professors and guests.
PFA was founded in 1936 and named after the father of modern dentistry, Dr. Pierre Fauchard.
The Academy is dedicated to the advancement of the dental profession.
It accomplishes its goals through literature, by encouragement of advanced and continuing education, and by honoring those who have made outstanding contributions to the profession.
