DP Ruto Says Half Of Kenyans Languish In Poverty Because Of The “Stupidity Of Ethnicity”

NAIROBI, Kenya, Monday, September 21, 2020 – In a shocking and unprecedented move, Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto now blames the spiralling unemployment and poverty in the country to “stupidity of ethnicity.”

Ruto, who has served as Deputy President now for seven years appears to blame the high levels of poverty and unemployment to poor governance and policy formulation by the government.

He further notes that over half of Kenyans live in poverty on account of problems brought about by the “stupidity of ethnicity.”

Taking to Twitter, DP Ruto who has in the recent past been combative, and questioned the performance of the Jubilee government where he is the second in command said the conversation about the ‘hustler’ was long overdue and is the harbinger of the needed political revolution in Kenya.

Without explaining “stupidity of ethnicity,” he said that the hustler nation is tribeless and will seek to address the plight of over 20 million Kenyans living in poverty.

“Finally we have the conversation of our lifetime: the hustler. Until now our politics was hostage to the stupidity of ethnicity/our person. Which is the reason why almost half of Kenyans live in poverty &16m are JOBLESS. The TRIBLESS hustler IMPERATIVE is a REVOLUTION in our POLITICS,” the DP Tweeted.

The DP appears to have been referring to a newspaper segment that appeared to say that he has locked horns with ODM leader Raila Odinga. This comes just days after Ruto and Raila traded barbs over the hustler nation term.

He said the term hustler is nothing new to Kenyan politics as all the Kenyan presidents started from very humble backgrounds. He gave the example of Kenya’s first president, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, his successor Daniel Moi and Mwai Kibaki who had all began from very humble starts.

“I’m the son of the late Jaramogi Odinga, his father was a peasant, look at all the Kenyan presidents, Kenyatta, Kibaki and Moi, they all began poor, they were all hustlers,” Raila said.

The former Prime Minister added that focus for all presidential hopefuls should be on what they plan to do for Kenyans. On Sunday, Ruto pulled a fast one on the former Prime Minister and welcomed him to the hustler nation.

“Now that the country is in agreement that Kenya is a hustling nation, leaders should respect the hustle of every single Kenyan,” he said.
