Garissa Governor Ali Korane Arraigned For Embezzlement Of KSh233 Million

NAIROBI, Kenya, September 15, 2020 – Garissa Governor Ali Korane was on Tuesday morning arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi over alleged embezzlement of KSh233 million World Bank grant.

Appearing before Anti-Corruption Magistrate Douglas Ogoti, Governor Korane and four others were charged with conspiracy to commit an offence of economic crime, willful failure to comply with laws related to the management of funds and misappropriation of public funds.

They were charged that between February 25, 2019 and September 30, 2019 within Garissa County they mismanaged public funds allocated to the County Government of Garissa as a conditional grant for the Kenya Urban Support Programme (KUSP) amounting to KSh 233.506.000.

Korane and his co-accused Ibrahim Malow Nur, Mohamed Ahmed Abdullahi, Abdi Shale and Ahmed Abdullahi Aden denied the charges.

The court is set to rule on their bail application.
