KISII, Kenya – Abagusii Council of Elders resolved to groom Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i as the community spokesperson and Kingpin.
Elders drawn from both Kisii and Nyamira counties converged at Kisii Agricultural Training College with CS Matiang’i, governors, senators and Woman Reps from the two counties to share the idea.
Speaking to the press after a long meeting with the leaders, the council of elders chairman James Matundura said they called the meeting and requested Dr. Fred Matiang’i to take charge as the community’s spokesperson.
“We have spoken our mind about grooming the CS as the community’s spokesperson. This was the main agenda of our meeting and we are glad our leaders took it positively,” said Matundura.
He divulged that the CS asked them to wait for about two weeks as he makes the decision and also share this with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
He further disclosed that the elders will call upon all elected leaders from both counties and request them to support the idea. The elders also promised to rally all for the unity of the community.
The patron of the Council Stephen Omenge said the elders agreed to offer Dr Matiang’i as the spokesperson and also the unifying factor of the community.
“Having the CS as the community’s kingpin will unite and also will help us to speak in one voice and move in one direction,” said Omenge.
Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri said they have welcomed the idea and they are ready to support the CS as the community’s kingpin.
He said they have listened and described the idea as great and that, which should be embraced by everyone.
At the same time, Nyamira Senator Okongo O’mogeni said they are ready for the big day to mark the inauguration of the CS as the Community kingpin.
Kisii Woman Rep’ Janet Ongera was emphatic that on the night for the community to get involved at the national level in the decision making and that having CS Matiang’i is the best thing to the community.
She said as leaders they are ready to support one of their own in unifying the community. Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo said the people of Nyamira welcomed the idea and are ready to support the CS at all times as he moves the community forward.
“The unity of our community is quite impressive and having the CS as the spokesperson is a thing, we highly welcome,” said Governor Nyaribo.
Kisii Governor James Ongwae welcomed the idea and said they will support the CS as they make arrangements to groom him.
