Kisii MCAs Back Initiative To Groom CS Matiang’i As Community Kingpin

Kisii members of county assembly have supported the initiative to groom Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i as Gusii Community spokesperson.

KISII, Kenya, January 14, 2021 – Kisii members of county assembly have supported the initiative to groom Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i as Gusii Community spokesperson.

This is after Abagusii Council of Elders held a consultative meeting on plans to groom the CS Matiangi.

Led by Kisii central ward member of county assembly Kepha Mogaka, they acknowledged receiving a brief from the Abagusii council of elders on the plans to coronate and crown CS Matiangi as Gusii spokesperson and the Kingpin of the community.

Addressing the press at one of the hotel in Kisii they said that coronation according to Abagusii culture is sacred enthronement.  Those who accept it are given divine protection from evil spell and physical harm, and an opportunity to speak for and on behalf of the community.

Marani ward MCA Dennis Ombachi was emphatic that Dr Matiang’i deserves to be endorsed for he has shown tremendous achievements in his work and a capacity to unite and lead the community to political and economic prosperity and also foster connections and linkages.

“CS Dr Fred Matiang’i deserves to be coronated as Gusii spokesperson, he has done a lot in all ministries he has served, he is now a unifying factor to Omogusii community,” he said.

Tabaka ward member of County Assembly Daniel Apepo called upon CS Matiang’i to accept the move since the community has been without the spokesperson for a long time following the retirement of former minister Simeon Nyachae from active politics.

They said that as representatives of the wards they have further consulted to the ward level as they will be going across the wards to sell the idea.

Bomorenda MCA John Ombati said CS Matiangi has shown leadership skills, which should be emulated. Josephine Ombati said that it’s high time for the community to have their spokesperson.

Bomariba MCA Protus Moindi stated that it’s high time for the Abagusii community to speak in one voice.

The MCAs called upon leaders led by Kisii Governor James Ongwae and his counterpart Amos Nyaribo with the council of elders to sensitize and rally all leaders, both local and national, professionals and church leaders to support the elders’ initiative.

The leaders are now waiting for the day’s celebration to crown the CS.
