Kisii County Assembly through a supplementary budget has donated 600,000 face masks to compliment the fight against coronavirus pandemic across the 45 wards.

KISII, Kenya, July 1, 2020 – Kisii County Assembly through a supplementary budget has donated 600,000 face masks to complement the fight against coronavirus pandemic across the 45 wards.

Speaking at Kisii Agricultural Training Center, Kisii Governor James Ongwae where he dispatched the face masks to various wards applauded the MCAs for setting aside funds to contain Covid-19.

“Five positive Covid-19 cases who were in isolation centres have all tested negative and their 150 contacts were discharged,” said Ongwae divulged.

At the same time, Governor Ongwae was optimistic that the County is well prepared for the pandemic with 310 hospitals beds already in place and at least 15 ventilators. He further divulged that Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital has a medical oxygen production plant, which supplies oxygen to the South Nyanza region counties.

“We have contacted Nyaore polytechnic, which is going to manufacture more than 10,000 masks in the coming weeks,” said the governor while applauding the MCAs for their gesture.

The County has already set aside a 300 quarantine bed capacity centre at Kisii School for lawbreakers who fail to comply with the containment measures by the ministry of health.

The governor urged the society not to stigmatize those who have been discharged from isolation centers and results tested negative but to accept and welcome them.
