Nyamira Governor Picks Ex-MP As His Deputy

NYAMIRA, Kenya, January 7, 2021 – The newly inaugurated Nyamira governor Amos Nyaribo has nominated former West Mugirango Member of Parliament Dr James Gesami as his deputy barely a week after taking an oath of office.

Addressing the press on Wednesday at County headquarters, Governor Nyaribo said that he has nominated Gesami owing to his high experience in leadership and his good track record while serving as MP for West Mugirango Constituency.

“Pursuant to article 182 of the 2010 constitution of Kenya, section 12, 32 (c) and (d) and the County government amendment act, I hereby nominate Dr. James  Gesami for vetting and approval by County Assembly for the appointment as the Deputy Governor of Nyamira County”, said Nyaribo.

James Gesami was elected as a parliamentarian for West Mugirango from 2007 to 2017 when he sought unsuccessfully for the Nyamira gubernatorial seat on an independent candidature after losing out on the Orange Democratic Movement’s nominations to the late John Nyagarama.

At the same time, the governor named his new cabinet who are the County Executive Committee Members (CECs) whose names have been forwarded to County Assembly for vetting.

Only three CECs out of 10 made it back to Governor Nyaribo’s cabinet.

They are; Health Services Ms. Gladys Momanyi. She served in the Nyagarama government as Education CECs, Peris Mong’are for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries who retains in the same capacity and Samwel Maiko who will head the Lands, Housing and Urban Development he headed the Water, Environment, Mining and Natural Resources in the Nyagarama regime.

Those who failed to make it back are Mr. Douglas Bosire who was heading the Health services docket, John Omanwa, headed the Finance and Economic planning, Johnston Ndege for Trade, Industry, Tourism and cooperative development and Public Service Management department’s Benard Osumo among others.
