Reprieve For 22 Kisii County Officers As Gov’t Withdraws Directive For Self-Quarantine

KISII, Kenya, August 6, 2020 – Twenty-two  Kisii County officers have a sigh of relief after the County Director of Public Health Richard Onkware withdrew a memo directing them to self-quarantine after their colleague died after manifesting with Covid-19 like symptoms.

A county officer was on Monday taken ill and admitted to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital. He succumbed the same day. Samples from his body were taken for Covid-19 testing at KEMRI laboratories in Kisumu.

Onkware noted there was need to contact and trace all officers who were in one way or another in contact with the deceased.

However, on Wednesday they received a negative test result from the sample of the said officer and consequently advised that county officers who had gone into self-quarantine to be allowed back to duty as they all have given a clean bill of health.

Those who were to quarantine include a chief officer, a manager, six directors, three deputy director and several officers from revenue and enforcement departments.
