NAIROBI, Kenya, May 22, 2020 – Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu has lashed out at a section of Cabinet Secretaries accusing them of facilitating the Deputy President William Ruto to undermine his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“We cannot be upset that William Ruto is disrespecting and undermining his Boss, and then allow CSs – who work for the President – to facilitate Deputy Governors to undermine their Bosses,” charged the MP.
Without mincing words the MP declared that the country was in the process of calling deputy president and his allies to order by instilling discipline and therefore it was unacceptable that a section of CSs whom he did name were negating this.
“We are in the middle of pushing back against a DP who is undermining the President. We cannot then allow a CS to help a DG do the same to their Boss/Governor,” said the president’s kingpin in the Mount Kenya region.
“The sin is the same. And it must be condemned in the strongest possible terms. And we will do so,” he further notes.
Daggers are already drawn in what appears to be a do-or-die battle between the Tangatanga and Kieleweke political factions within the ruling Jubilee Party.
There is a split in the party as Kieleweke associates itself with President Kenyatta while Tangatanga group gravitates towards Deputy President William Ruto.
The brutal purge on Deputy President William Ruto’s lieutenants from key positions in Parliament has escalated.
Ngunjiri appears to be responding to the information that DP Ruto on Wednesday appeared in public for the first time since the vicious purge on his allies in Parliament began about a fortnight ago.
The DP, who has seemingly chosen a rather ‘silent and watch approach’ was in Kiambu, where he personally distributed foodstuff and monitored various agricultural projects. Ruto was in Kikuyu constituency, where he distributed ‘Together we shall overcome…stay safe William Ruto Foundation and Kimani Ichungwa’ branded bags of goodies. Ichung’wa, the Kikuyu constituency legislator, an ardent supporter of embattled DP.
It is worth noting that in recent months, the country’s second in command, who has fallen out with his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta, has kept a low profile in the face of the raging purge of his lieutenants from positions in government.
Those purged included former Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen and Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika who was his whip. Despite the onslaught, supporters have urged him to remain calm and focus on his dream to succeed President Uhuru in 2022 General Election.
