TVETA boss holds consultative meeting with Kibra MP Imran Okoth

The TVET Authority (TVETA) Director-General Dr. Kipkirui Langat on Wednesday, March 4, held a consultative meeting with the Kibra MP Imran Okoth who paid him a courtesy call.

NAIROBI, Kenya, March 4, 2020 – The TVET Authority (TVETA) Director-General Dr. Kipkirui Langat on Wednesday, March 4, held a consultative meeting with the Kibra MP Imran Okoth who paid him a courtesy call.

The duo delved on the intention by the legislator MP to establish the first public TVET institution in Kibra Constituency. To be named Kibra Vocational Training Centre, the institution will cater for the growing number of young people in need of skill-based training.

The MP said the state-of-the-art VTC, which will be constructed using Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocation, will be built near Toi market. The college will have training facilities, workshops, theatre rooms, recreational facilities among other facilities.

The MP who shared the design and masterplan for the college asked the DG to assist in facilitating the registration of the institution, recruitment of qualified manager and trainers and TVET programmes.

The MP was emphatic the new college will pick up while ensuring as many students as possible are enrolled to acquire the right skills needed in the market.

Dr Langat was hailed the move, saying that establishing a college in Kibra is the right decision for the constituent because there are few public TVET institutions in Nairobi to cater for the growing population.

“You have started on the right path because there are fewer public colleges in Nairobi to meet the demand from over 4 million residents. Most of the colleges are private and out of reach for most students, especially from the informal settlements,” said Dr. Kipkirui Langat.

The DG said that TVETA will help the MP to realize the dream of establishing a model VTC that can be embraced in other parts of the country.

The DG agreed to visit Kibra next week for a site inspection tour and have further discussions with the MP and his team ahead of the scheduled groundbreaking ceremony for the institute.
